Creating a brand

During the summer of 2020, I was asked to assist with a project to create a graphic T-shirt brand integrating the well-known SoCal sunny vibe. Although we never followed through with a manufacturer, it was good brand creation identity practice.

First drafts

When I first began brainstorming for the brand, I developed a few logo designs that had a beachwear boutique vibe.

My initial thoughts when designing a logo are how to incorporate some kind of imagery to make the brand more memorable. With Thursday Threads, a roll of thread or a threaded needed fit my criteria.

However, the threaded needle read more as a wave and because of the SoCal beach identity I was developing, I wanted to incorporate that into the logo instead.

Personal Feedback

While a great idea in theory, the first idea didn't really stand out to me. Because my age and location are ideal for the target audience, I thought about what would appeal to me:

I think the beach is a great place to hangout, streetwear is nifty, and colorful, oversized graphic T-shirts are really in style.

With this in mind, I reconceptualized the logo.

Further Development

I decided to take a more streetwear style approach on the logo typeface. With my sister's help, we created an original typeface that could be used for all branding. It's unique enough that logo imagery won't be as important.

Next, I finalized the basic logos.
